Job Title: Support Technician – Level 1

Reports To: Junior & Senior Field Technician /Operations Manager/Area Manager
Location: Chariton, Iowa
Position Type: Full-Time | Entry-Level | Non-Exempt

Position Summary
The Level 1 Support Technician is an entry-level role designed to assist Junior and Senior Field Technicians with the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead doors and dock equipment. This position provides hands-on field experience and is a vital part of the technician development pipeline at Secured Overhead Doors. The Support Technician contributes to job efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction while gaining the skills necessary to advance within the company.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds and work on ladders
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to follow instructions

  • Willingness to undergo background and drug screening
  • Construction, mechanical, or general labor experience preferred but not required

Core Responsibilities
Field Support

  • Assist technicians on-site with preparation, staging, and cleanup
  • Load, unload, and transport tools, hardware, and materials
  • Retrieve parts or supplies from trucks, warehouse, or suppliers
  • Pre-stage job materials to ensure workflow continuity

Technical Assistance

  • Hold, align, or fasten parts during installations
  • Perform basic tasks such as drilling, measuring, or anchoring under supervision
  • Learn and follow proper installation and safety procedures

Safety & Cleanliness

  • Maintain a clean and organized job site
  • Adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Help identify and eliminate potential hazards

Communication

  • Relay information clearly between senior technicians and team leads
  • Represent Secured Overhead Doors in a professional manner when interacting with customers

Job Title: Junior Field Technician – Level 2

Reports To: Senior Field Technician /Operations Manager/Area Manager
Location: Des Moines, IA and Surrounding Counties/Areas
Position Type: Full-Time | Mid-Level | Non-Exempt

Position Summary
The Level 2 Junior Field Technician plays a hands-on role in the installation, service, and repair of overhead door systems and dock equipment. This position is designed for technicians with foundational field experience who are ready to take on more responsibility under the guidance of a Senior Technician. The Junior Technician supports jobsite productivity, develops technical skill sets, and begins managing tasks more independently with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and customer service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months field experience with mechanical or construction tasks
  • Successful completion of Level 1 Support
  • Technician training or equivalent industry experience
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools (drills, impact drivers, grinders, etc.)
  • Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and spec sheets
  • Comfortable working at heights and on ladders
  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds and work in various weather conditions
  • Professional communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Must pass background check and drug screening
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred or willingness to obtain

Core Responsibilities
Installation & Service

  • Assist in the installation and repair of sectional doors, rolling steel doors, operators, and dock equipment
  • Follow job plans, blueprints, and verbal direction from Senior Technicians
  • Conduct basic measurements, alignments, and mounting tasks
  • Operate lifts, ladders, and mechanical equipment safely
  • Execute service calls including minor adjustments, sensor alignment, and component swaps

Site Preparation & Clean-Up

  • Ensure all tools, hardware, and materials are present and staged for each job
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free job site
  • Load and unload equipment and manage daily inventory usage

Technical Support & Documentation

  • Accurately document completed work and materials used
  • Support senior team members with diagnostics and repairs
  • Communicate project updates, delays, or challenges to supervisors

Customer Interaction

  • Represent the company professionally in the field
  • Communicate with clients on basic project details or service outcomes when necessary
  • Maintain a respectful and courteous demeanor at all times

Job Title: Senior Field Technician – Level 3

Reports To: Operations Manager/Area Manager

Position Type: Full-Time | Advanced Level | Non-Exempt

Position Summary
The Level 3 Senior Field Technician is a skilled leader responsible for independently managing job sites, mentoring junior team members, and executing complex installations, repairs, and diagnostics on commercial, industrial, and residential overhead door and dock systems. This role requires deep mechanical knowledge, precision, problem-solving, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction. Senior Technicians are expected to set the standard for quality, professionalism, and leadership in the field.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years hands-on experience in the overhead door or dock equipment industry
  • Proven ability to install and service a full range of systems (sectional, rolling steel, fire doors, dock levelers, vehicle restraints, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Proficient with blueprints, spec sheets, and job scope documentation
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to supervise and train Level 1 and Level 2 technicians
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred
  • Must pass background check and drug screening
  • Excellent communication, time management, and decision-making skills

  • Serve as lead technician on assigned jobs, overseeing the full project lifecycle

Technical Execution

  • Perform advanced installations, repairs, and service calls across all product categories
  • Diagnose and resolve complex operational issues involving mechanical, electrical, or control systems
  • Ensure installations meet manufacturer specifications and code requirements
  • Execute fire door drop tests, dock system calibrations, and control panel wiring when needed

Customer & Project Management

  • Serve as the primary field contact for customers on-site
  • Communicate clearly about work progress, issues, and solutions
  • Document all services, labor hours, and materials used with accuracy
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and leave every job site in clean, professional condition
